I like that implementation. Rather than having your previous physical games tied to your account, the PS4 just checks the authenticity of your disc and allows you access to the Gaikai version of the game. Therefore, if ownership of the game transfers to another, so does access to the game. Bubbles for what I think you were saying in the last paragraph.

Does anyone know if PlayStation games run on the PS4? I know that it can't play PS3 games, but given that I can play PS2 and PSone games on a computer made within the last five years I would hope they implement such non-demanding emulation on the console. Sony would win major points in my book if they added PS2 and PSone emulation to the PS4. There really isn't anything technical preventing that.

Depends. Can I play the plethora of disc based games I own across all three generations of Sony products? Or will I have to buy the Gaikai versions to "unlock" backwards compatibility on all my games?

Though I do think this is a great feature to have going forward, I cringe every time people call streaming games backwards compatibility. If we have to repurchase (speculation) everything to play what we already own in a physical format -- that is not backwards comp...

@ Information Minister

Luckily most with a pc that has been made within the past 5 years can emulate PSone and PS2 games. Without any real network connectivity such as trophies and DLC, the first two generations are safe from forced deprecation and can arguably be considered better on the pc with up-scaling and increased frame-rates.

Emulation of the PS3 won't happen any time soon or ever without some breakthroughs in processor speed or sophisticated cod...

This is my main concern at the moment. If this is the case for PS3 games, I hope they have a system in place so that this situation will never happen in the future with PS4 and its successors.

They effectively did retire the Dualshock. Just look at this new controller. It's radically different compared to its previous iterations.

Changes: Touch screen, ergonomics, improved triggers, share button, loss of start and select buttons, Move light, headphone jack, built-in speaker, 3-axis accelerometer.

Sony managed to cram practically every feature in other controllers into the DualShock. It's a beast feature-wise compared to its brethren.

Nice that rumor was put to rest.

My only big question I have left is with Gaikai. Hopefully they allow you to own both the Cloud and disc version of the game when you purchase a physical game. This would help facilitate the transition to digital media without getting rid of physical media.

@ Army_of_Darkness

I really wonder how Nintendo is going to promote their console this year. Given the announcements today, Sony appears to be trying pace themselves and build considerable momentum towards their holiday release. By holding back some today they can effectively pull off another reveal at E3 when they show off the console and the price.

Given that Nintendo never attends TGS and Microsoft has yet to make their splash, it will be interesting to ...

Sony is trying to build momentum. Give it time. Sony seems to be trying to spread out their announcements more than the past. This helps build up hype.

However, I do agree we need to hear something about it at E3.

Classic layout, but evolved.

Also, I am glad they kept the original stick layout. Now all that's left to see is the integration of the controller with the new PS eye along with the touchscreen on the controller. E3 can't come soon enough!.

No more plastic add-on triggers anymore! I always forget how the bare controller feels until I play someone else's PS3. I can't live without concave triggers.

The dpad looks a little funky to me. But that just might be just because this is the first big evolution of Sony's iconic controller.

Also, I am glad that they didn't swap the stick with the dpad. Loved the arrangement given the way you hold the controller.

This is like the first time a console has the same amount of memory as computers have on release. Heck, the memory is faster and will be better utilized that desktop memory also. This upcoming generation might be able to hold its own for awhile.

Kaz is just so meme-able. I really hope he does Sony well now that he is at the top.

Bubbles for you. That would be an incredibly smart way to implement backwards compatibility. While I still want real compatibility without any latency, this would nonetheless be a brilliant move for Sony.

I hope they make a backwards compatible PS4 like they did with the PS3. The reason why I own an old 60 GB PS3 instead of some of the later models was simply because I heard they were cutting backwards compatibility out. They honestly forc...

Close. The opposite of price cut is a price increase.

@darthv72

Letting this amount of hype flourish unchecked by Sony would only hurt them if they delaying ps4 announcement. However, I could see them splitting the time up of this PlayStation Meeting between the PS3, Vita, and PS4. That is perfectly reasonable.

What I wonder is if they are going to announce a date or not. A reveal doesn't necessarily imply a release schedule. Opting not to set a date would help Sony keep their hand hidden from Microsoft....

Well the controller did kind of suck... You know there was a problem when some people actually had difficulty reaching the buttons. Microsoft realized this after it was on the market a bit and downsized the controller and moved the black and white buttons closer to the thumb.

The original controller was enormous...

@RememberThe357

"Expecting multi-platform games to sell on Wii U when everyone already has a PS3 or 360 is frankly stupid."

This is so true. Ironically, the multi-platform games that Nintendo have always wanted won't get them anywhere on the Wii U. Until the PS4 or NeXtbox is released Nintendo is competing with the PS3 and Xbox 360, and there is little reason to invest in the Nintendo's system when everyone already owns a system of similar...
